WYSIWYG — What You See Is What You Get
The coral in the photos is the exact specimen you will receive. Our photos are taken under medium blue reef lighting to represent the coral as accurately as possible to the naked eye. Colours may appear slightly different under your specific lighting setup. If you have any questions about colouration or would like additional photos before purchasing, please contact us — we're happy to help.
Acropora is the pinnacle of SPS reef keeping. The most diverse and species-rich coral genus in the ocean, acropora is the coral that serious reef keepers aspire to grow well — and for good reason. Under the right conditions, a thriving acropora colony with vibrant polyp extension, strong branching growth, and electric colouration is one of the most rewarding sights in the hobby.
Available in an extraordinary range of growth forms — tabletop, staghorn, bottlebrush, and branching — and colours spanning electric blues, greens, purples, pinks, and multicoloured morphs, acropora brings a dynamism and colour to a reef that no other coral can match. Collector grade specimens and named morphs are among the most prized and sought after pieces in the reef keeping world.
Growing acropora well is the mark of a mature, well-dialled reef system. It rewards the reef keeper who maintains stable, pristine water chemistry and punishes neglect quickly. For experienced reef keepers with established systems, there is nothing more satisfying.
Care Guide
- Care level: Advanced — best suited to experienced reef keepers with mature, stable, well-established systems
- Lighting: High — acropora requires strong, consistent lighting. Upper rockwork positioning is recommended for most growth forms. Tabletop varieties can be placed mid to upper rockwork where they can spread horizontally under intense light
- Flow: High — strong, turbulent, random flow is essential for acropora health. Good flow keeps tissue clean, delivers nutrients, and prevents dead spots around the branches. Wavemakers and alternating flow patterns work best
- Placement: Upper to mid rockwork depending on growth form. Allow adequate space around the colony as acropora grows relatively quickly under good conditions and will shade or overgrow neighbouring corals
- Temperament: Peaceful — acropora does not produce sweeper tentacles but can shade out slower growing neighbours as the colony expands
- Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic. Acropora benefits from dissolved organic nutrients and can be fed with fine particulate reef foods such as reef roids or amino acids. Maintaining low but non-zero nutrient levels — nitrate 2-8ppm, phosphate 0.02-0.08ppm — supports strong growth and vivid colouration
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 24–26°C
- Salinity: 1.025–1.026
- Calcium: 400–450ppm
- Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH (stability is critical — swings of more than 0.5 dKH per day can cause rapid tissue necrosis)
- Magnesium: 1280–1380ppm
- Nitrate: 2–8ppm
- Phosphate: 0.02–0.08ppm
Note: Acropora is the most parameter-sensitive coral in the hobby. Rapid changes in alkalinity, temperature, or salinity are the most common causes of tissue loss and RTN. Always adjust parameters slowly and incrementally. A stable system at slightly imperfect numbers will always outperform an unstable system chasing perfect targets.
Shipping All livestock is packed with care and shipped Australia-wide with heat or cold packs as required for the season. Shipping insurance is available at checkout and strongly recommended for all livestock orders.
Acropora is one of the more sensitive corals to ship. We take every precaution to ensure your specimen arrives healthy and ready to acclimate. We strongly recommend shipping insurance on all acropora orders.
As a live coral, natural variation in colouration and size may occur. We photograph all WYSIWYG specimens individually to ensure what you see is what you receive.
