kokoo Acro Frag
WYSIWYG — What You See Is What You Get The coral in the photos is the exact specimen you will receive. Our photos are taken under medium blue reef lighting to represent the coral as accurately as possible to the naked eye. Colours may appear slightly different under your specific lighting setup. If you have any questions about colouration or would like additional photos before purchasing, please contact us — we're happy to help.
Kokoo Acropora is a highly sought after and visually striking named Acropora morph that has developed a passionate following among serious SPS collectors in the reef keeping hobby. Known for its vivid, multi-toned colouration and strong branching growth form, Kokoo delivers the kind of visual impact that experienced reef keepers look for when adding a named morph to an established SPS system.
Under quality reef lighting the Kokoo Acropora expresses a depth and intensity of colour that shifts and develops as the coral grows and settles into your specific system. Like all premium named Acropora morphs, the colouration is heavily influenced by lighting spectrum, intensity, and water chemistry — a well-kept Kokoo in a dialled-in system is a genuinely impressive piece.
A frag of Kokoo today becomes an increasingly valuable and visually commanding colony over time. For reef keepers building a serious SPS collection, named morphs like Kokoo represent both the pinnacle of the hobby and a long term investment in the character of their reef.
Care Guide
- Care level: Advanced — best suited to experienced reef keepers with mature, stable, well-established systems. Not recommended for new tanks or reef keepers still stabilising their parameters
- Lighting: High — Kokoo Acropora requires strong, consistent, full spectrum lighting to express and maintain its characteristic colouration. Upper rockwork positioning under quality LED or T5 lighting is strongly recommended. Insufficient lighting will cause the coral to pale and lose colour intensity. Ensure your lighting includes adequate blue and violet spectrum alongside white to bring out the full colour range
- Flow: High — strong, random, turbulent flow is essential. Good flow keeps tissue clean, delivers nutrients to polyps, and prevents tissue recession at the base of branches. Wavemakers and alternating flow patterns work best. Avoid laminar or single direction flow which creates dead spots and uneven growth
- Placement: Upper to mid rockwork with strong light and flow access. Allow adequate space around the colony as Kokoo grows confidently under good conditions and will shade or compete with neighbouring corals. Plan placement with long term growth trajectory in mind
- Temperament: Peaceful — does not produce sweeper tentacles but will overgrow and shade slower growing neighbours as the colony matures. Position with growth in mind from the start
- Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic. Benefits from dissolved organic nutrients and can be supplemented with fine particulate reef foods such as reef roids or amino acid supplements 2-3 times per week. Maintaining low but non-zero nutrient levels supports strong growth and vivid colour expression — nitrate 2-8ppm and phosphate 0.02-0.08ppm is the ideal range for named Acropora morphs
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 24–26°C
- Salinity: 1.025–1.026
- Calcium: 400–450ppm
- Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH (stability is critical — swings of more than 0.5 dKH per day can cause rapid tissue necrosis. Daily testing strongly recommended)
- Magnesium: 1280–1380ppm
- Nitrate: 2–8ppm
- Phosphate: 0.02–0.08ppm
Note: Named Acropora morphs like Kokoo are among the most parameter sensitive corals in the hobby. Rapid changes in alkalinity, temperature, or salinity are the most common causes of colour loss, tissue recession, and RTN. Always adjust parameters slowly and incrementally. A stable system at slightly imperfect numbers will always outperform an unstable system chasing perfect targets.
A Note On Frag Size And Growth This listing is for a frag of Kokoo Acropora mounted on a frag plug and actively growing. Growth rate and final colony size will depend on your system's lighting, flow, and water chemistry. Under ideal conditions Kokoo develops into an increasingly impressive colony with colour expression often intensifying as the coral matures and adapts to your specific system parameters.
Shipping All livestock is packed with care and shipped Australia-wide with heat or cold packs as required for the season. Shipping insurance is available at checkout and strongly recommended for all Acropora orders.
Named morph Acropora frags are among the more sensitive corals to ship. We take every precaution to ensure your specimen arrives healthy, hydrated, and ready to acclimate. We strongly recommend shipping insurance on all named morph orders without exception.
As a live coral, natural variation in colouration may occur depending on your specific lighting and tank conditions. We photograph all WYSIWYG specimens individually to ensure what you see is what you receive.
