WYSIWYG — What You See Is What You Get The coral in the photos is the exact specimen you will receive. Our photos are taken under medium blue reef lighting to represent the coral as accurately as possible to the naked eye. Colours may appear slightly different under your specific lighting setup. If you have any questions about colouration or would like additional photos before purchasing, please contact us — we're happy to help.

Rhodactis are the premium end of the mushroom coral world. Unlike smooth Discosoma mushrooms, Rhodactis are defined by their heavily textured, hairy, or bumpy surface — giving them a tactile, almost otherworldly appearance under reef lighting that sets them apart from any other softie in the hobby.

Available in an extraordinary range of colours and textures — from deeply ridged green and teal specimens to striking multicoloured hairy mushrooms with contrasting oral discs — Rhodactis are highly collectable and actively sought by reef keepers who appreciate something more unusual than a standard mushroom. Some varieties, including the iconic Bounce Mushroom, are among the most valuable and sought after corals in the entire hobby.

Hardy, adaptable, and relatively easy to keep, Rhodactis make an excellent addition to any reef — from beginner tanks looking for something with visual impact to experienced collectors hunting rare colour morphs.

Care Guide

  • Care level: Beginner to Moderate — hardier than most LPS but more sensitive than standard Discosoma mushrooms
  • Lighting: Low to medium — Rhodactis prefer indirect, lower intensity light. Avoid placing directly under high intensity LED spots which can cause bleaching and curling. Shaded areas of the rockwork or lower sections of the tank suit them well
  • Flow: Low — gentle indirect flow is ideal. Strong direct flow will cause them to retract and can prevent full expansion. They will naturally move to find their preferred position over time
  • Placement: Lower to mid rockwork or sandbed in areas of indirect light and gentle flow. Allow adequate space as Rhodactis will spread and can overtake slower growing neighbours over time
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive — Rhodactis can produce mucus and sting neighbouring corals, particularly when stressed or expanding into new territory. Allow adequate spacing from neighbouring corals
  • Feeding: Rhodactis respond well to target feeding with small meaty foods such as reef roids, mysis shrimp, or fine particulate coral foods 1-2 times per week. Regular feeding encourages faster growth, larger disc size, and more vibrant colouration. Feed after lights dim when the coral is fully expanded

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: 24–26°C
  • Salinity: 1.024–1.026
  • Calcium: 380–430ppm
  • Alkalinity: 7–10 dKH
  • Magnesium: 1250–1350ppm
  • Nitrate: 5–20ppm (Rhodactis tolerate and even prefer slightly elevated nutrients compared to SPS and many LPS corals)
  • Phosphate: 0.05–0.10ppm

Note: Rhodactis are sensitive to rapid salinity and temperature changes. Acclimate new specimens slowly using the drip method. Avoid placing near strong flow or high intensity lighting during the initial acclimation period.
