WYSIWYG — What You See Is What You Get The coral in the photos is the exact specimen you will receive. Our photos are taken under medium blue reef lighting to represent the coral as accurately as possible to the naked eye. Colours may appear slightly different under your specific lighting setup. If you have any questions about colouration or would like additional photos before purchasing, please contact us — we're happy to help.

Chalice corals are one of the most visually stunning and collectable LPS corals in the reef keeping hobby. Known for their extraordinary range of colours, patterns, and eye spots — no two chalice corals are ever truly the same. From deep reds and purples to electric greens and multi-coloured patterns, a well-placed chalice coral becomes an instant focal point in any reef tank.

Chalice corals grow in a plating or encrusting form, spreading outward across rockwork and creating a dramatic layered appearance over time. Highly sought after by experienced reef keepers and collectors, quality chalice specimens are among the most prized pieces in the hobby.

Care Guide

  • Care level: Moderate to Advanced — best suited to reef keepers with established, stable systems
  • Lighting: Low to medium — chalice corals prefer lower, indirect light. Direct high intensity lighting will cause bleaching and stress. Placing them in shaded or lower areas of the tank works best
  • Flow: Low to moderate — gentle indirect flow keeps them clean without stressing the tissue. Avoid strong direct flow which can cause tissue recession
  • Placement: Lower rockwork or the sandbed — away from direct light and high flow areas. Allow adequate space as chalice corals will encrust and spread over time
  • Temperament: Aggressive — chalice corals produce sweeper tentacles at night that can sting and damage neighbouring corals. Allow a minimum of 15-20cm clearance from other corals
  • Feeding: Chalice corals benefit from target feeding with small meaty foods such as reef roids, coral frenzy, or mysis shrimp 1-2 times per week. Feeding encourages faster growth and more vibrant colouration

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: 24–26°C
  • Salinity: 1.024–1.026
  • Calcium: 380–430ppm
  • Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH
  • Magnesium: 1250–1350ppm
  • Nitrate: 5–15ppm
  • Phosphate: 0.05–0.10ppm

Note: Chalice corals are sensitive to parameter swings. Stability is more important than hitting exact target numbers. Rapid changes in alkalinity in particular can cause rapid tissue necrosis (RTN).
