WYSIWYG — What You See Is What You Get The coral in the photos is the exact specimen you will receive. Our photos are taken under medium blue reef lighting to represent the coral as accurately as possible to the naked eye. Colours may appear slightly different under your specific lighting setup. If you have any questions about colouration or would like additional photos before purchasing, please contact us — we're happy to help.

Acanthastrea bowerbanki is one of the most underrated and visually spectacular LPS corals in the reef keeping hobby. Known for its large fleshy corallites, extraordinary colour range, and bold patterning, bowerbanki is a coral that stops you in your tracks under reef lighting. From deep jewel tones of red, green, and purple to striking multicoloured specimens with contrasting corallite edges and centres — no two bowerbanki are ever truly alike.

A slow growing encrusting coral, bowerbanki spreads gradually across rockwork and becomes increasingly impressive over time. Highly sought after by collectors and experienced reef keepers who appreciate bold, characterful pieces over generic filler corals. A quality bowerbanki specimen is an investment in your reef that pays off visually for years.

Care Guide

  • Care level: Moderate — well suited to reef keepers with established, stable systems
  • Lighting: Low to medium — bowerbanki prefers indirect, lower intensity light. Avoid placing directly under high intensity LED spots which can cause bleaching and wash out colouration. Lower rockwork or shaded areas bring out the best colour
  • Flow: Low to moderate — gentle indirect flow is ideal. Strong direct flow will cause the coral to retract and can damage the fleshy tissue
  • Placement: Lower to mid rockwork in areas of indirect light and gentle flow. Allow adequate space around the coral as it will encrust and spread over time
  • Temperament: Aggressive — bowerbanki produces sweeper tentacles at night that can sting and damage neighbouring corals. Allow a minimum of 15-20cm clearance from other corals
  • Feeding: Bowerbanki responds very well to target feeding with small meaty foods such as reef roids, mysis shrimp, or coral frenzy 1-2 times per week. Regular feeding encourages faster growth, larger corallites, and more vibrant colouration

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: 24–26°C
  • Salinity: 1.024–1.026
  • Calcium: 380–430ppm
  • Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH
  • Magnesium: 1250–1350ppm
  • Nitrate: 5–15ppm (tolerates slightly elevated nutrients better than SPS)
  • Phosphate: 0.05–0.10ppm

Note: Bowerbanki is sensitive to rapid parameter swings — particularly sudden alkalinity changes. Maintain stable parameters and make adjustments gradually. Consistency is more important than hitting exact target numbers.
