Holy Grail Torch Per Polyp
WYSIWYG — What You See Is What You Get The coral in the photos is the exact specimen you will receive. Our photos are taken under medium blue reef lighting to represent the coral as accurately as possible to the naked eye. Colours may appear slightly different under your specific lighting setup. If you have any questions about colouration or would like additional photos before purchasing, please contact us — we're happy to help.
The Holy Grail Torch is without question one of the most legendary and coveted named coral morphs in the reef keeping hobby. Few corals in the world carry the same reputation, the same collector passion, and the same jaw-dropping visual impact as a genuine Holy Grail Torch in full extension.
Named for its extraordinary and distinctive colouration — a vivid purple to blue base with striking gold or yellow tentacle tips that glow with an almost electric intensity under reef lighting — the Holy Grail Torch is the coral that stops every experienced reef keeper in their tracks. It is simultaneously the most recognisable torch morph in the hobby and the one most actively hunted by serious collectors worldwide.
Originating from Indo-Pacific reef systems, genuine Holy Grail Torch corals are rare, demand significant investment, and command immediate attention in any reef tank. A multi-headed Holy Grail colony is the kind of piece that defines a reef — the centrepiece that every other coral is arranged around. If you have been searching for the torch morph that the hobby talks about more than any other — this is it.
Care Guide
- Care level: Moderate to Advanced — best suited to reef keepers with established, stable, well-maintained systems. Given the rarity and value of this morph, it is strongly recommended for reef keepers who are confident in their water quality and parameter stability
- Lighting: Low to medium — Holy Grail Torch expresses its most vivid and distinctive colouration under moderate, indirect reef lighting. The characteristic purple-blue base and gold tip colouration is best brought out under blue-dominant spectrum lighting. Avoid direct high intensity LED spots which can cause bleaching and suppress the characteristic gold pigmentation. Mid to lower rockwork positioning works best
- Flow: Low — this is critical. Holy Grail Torch requires gentle, indirect, random flow to achieve full tentacle extension. Strong or direct flow will prevent extension, cause chronic stress, and over time can lead to tissue recession. Of all the factors affecting torch coral health, flow is the most commonly mismanaged — when in doubt use less than you think you need
- Placement: Mid to lower rockwork with generous space in all directions. The sweeper tentacles of a healthy torch coral extend significantly further than the skeleton at night — allow a minimum of 20-25cm clearance from all neighbouring corals. Given the value of this morph, placement planning deserves particular care
- Temperament: Aggressive — torch corals are among the more aggressive Euphyllia corals and the Holy Grail is no exception. Long sweeper tentacles extended at night can reach and damage neighbouring corals across surprising distances. Note: torch corals are generally compatible with other torch coral morphs and can be grouped together safely
- Feeding: Target feeding is strongly recommended and will make a significant difference to growth rate, head splitting frequency, and colour intensity. Feed with small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, reef roids, or coral frenzy 2-3 times per week. Feed after lights dim when the tentacles are fully extended and the coral is actively receptive. Given the investment represented by a Holy Grail specimen, consistent regular feeding is not optional — it is essential
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 24–26°C
- Salinity: 1.024–1.026
- Calcium: 380–430ppm
- Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH (stability is absolutely critical — sudden alkalinity swings are the most common cause of torch coral decline, tissue recession, and RTN. Test alkalinity daily if possible and never adjust by more than 0.5 dKH per day)
- Magnesium: 1250–1350ppm
- Nitrate: 5–15ppm
- Phosphate: 0.05–0.10ppm
Note: Given the rarity and value of the Holy Grail Torch morph, we strongly recommend reef keepers have a proven track record of keeping Euphyllia corals successfully before acquiring this specimen. Alkalinity stability and low flow are the two most critical factors. If your torch corals are currently thriving — you are ready for a Holy Grail.
A Note On Holy Grail Authenticity The name Holy Grail Torch has become widely used in the hobby and not all specimens offered under this name carry the genuine colouration that defines the morph. Authentic Holy Grail Torch corals display a distinctive purple to blue base column with vivid gold or yellow tentacle tips — the contrast between the two colours is what makes this morph immediately recognisable. We photograph all WYSIWYG specimens under our display lighting to ensure the colouration you see is genuine and accurately represented.
Shipping All livestock is packed with care and shipped Australia-wide with heat or cold packs as required for the season. Shipping insurance is available at checkout and strongly recommended for all livestock orders.
Given the rarity and value of Holy Grail Torch corals we take every possible precaution to ensure safe transit. We strongly recommend shipping insurance on all Holy Grail orders without exception. Please ensure someone is available to receive the delivery on the day of arrival.
As a live coral, natural variation in colouration and tentacle extension may occur depending on your specific lighting and tank conditions. We photograph all WYSIWYG specimens individually to ensure what you see is what you receive.
